The Spanish Grand Prix has a colourful history, beginning as far back as 1913 and covering venues from Jarama and Montjuich to its current location of Barcelona, with some high profile wins taking place from some of the best known drivers ever to compete in the sport.
Throughout the last century, the Spanish Grand Prix has grown with the sport as a whole, beginning in 1913 under touring car rules and progressing through the European Grand Prix Motor Racing years of the 1920s and 1930s when financial trouble saw it emerge on different tracks but still under touring car rules. With the Spanish Civil War breaking out between 1936 and 1939, as well as the Wall Street Crash creating huge uncertainty, the sport would struggle until 1951 when it finally emerged again as part of Formula One. At this point it was held at the Pedralbes Circuit, a former circuit near Barcelona, but it would not be until the 1960s that Formula One had a permanent home in the country and despite a gap from 1981 to 1985 it has remained to this day.
In recent years the Spanish Grand Prix has been a popular fixture of the racing calendar and fans in the country flock to witness home-grown talents such as Fernando Alonso competing and hoping for victory. The 2000s saw a diverse range of drivers win, with Michael Schumacher dominating early in the decade and eventually giving way to the likes of Kimi Räikkönen, Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa and Jenson Button.
Formula One is one of the biggest sports in the world and with the Spanish Grand Prix they have a regular home. With a great atmosphere regularly held at any of its worldwide events, it is likely to be an experience that racing fans will remember for years to come. So make sure you get hold of your Spanish Grand Prix tickets as soon as possible.
