18-22 Greenside Place
The Edinburgh Playhouse is situated on Greenside Place, at the top of Leith Walk and close to the east end of Princes Street. This is less than 10 minute's walk from Waverley Station, 5 minutes walk from the bus station and on various major bus routes.
The Edinburgh Playhouse will be one of the stops of the Dolly Parton show “9 to 5: The Musical” this Autumn as it lands at the Scottish venue for a week in November. This production is based on the hit movie of the same name, which starred Parton and Jane Fonda back in the 1980s. It was developed in 2008 and has appeared on many stages on the other side of the Atlantic prior to its UK tour, which also sees it take in cities such as Manchester.
The plot focuses its attention on three office workers who decide to make a stand against their boss, who is a lying, sexist bigot, by attempting to take control of the company. It famously features the hit song “9 to 5” and should prove to be a hit with those that pick up theatre tickets when it lands in the Scottish capital.
Dolly Parton, who wrote the music and lyrics of the show, is a monumentally successful country musician whose sons are famous around the world, from “9 to 5” to “I Will Always Love You” (which was made famous by Whitney Houston and features in the West End production of “The Bodyguard”), she has fans everywhere she goes.
“9 to 5: The Musical” is at the Edinburgh Playhouse from Monday 26th November 2012 to Saturday 1st December 2012.
