The famous Broadway star Anthony Rapp has enjoyed an impressive career so far and some of the events right at the start of it becomes part of the focus of this new one-man show “Without You”, which lands at the Menier Chocolate Factory in August.
“Without You” is sourced from Rapp’s own memoirs and as a result we see events early in his career when he was amongst those cast in the Broadway musical “Rent”. It would be a huge boost in his career but a surprising incident before the premiere meant that it was an event of varying emotions. Tragedy struck before this performance when Jonathan Larson, the composer, suddenly died.
Death is a large part of the show as the show also deals with the death of Rapp’s own mother, showing how these two life changing events play out and affect him.
Anthony Rapp has appeared in a wide range of shows during his career and as a result American audiences that have picked up theatre tickets have seen him in everything from “Rent” to “Nocturne” and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”, among others.
The Menier Chocolate Factory is a well known London venue that operates outside of the West End but regularly features its stars – such as the upcoming performance “Le Gateau Chocolat” – and premieres shows that often go on to find success there. As such it is a venue that has a good reputation and continues to attract world-class talent.
Anthony Rapp performs “Without You” at the Menier Chocolate Factory from Wednesday 29th August 2012 until Saturday 15th September 2012.
