The dance company Balé de Rua has been wowing audiences on a regular occasion in the last few years, presenting a spectacular performance of impressive choreography and passionate dance moves as the history of Brazil comes to life onstage. The show has previously been seen at places such as Edinburgh and Sidney, whilst a performance in London at the Barbican Theatre managed to wow audiences in the capital as well. So it is already a tried and tested showcase and one that is likely to impress London theatre audiences once again when it arrives on the stage of the Peacock Theatre.
The show features an array of dancers (fifteen in total) taking to the stage to present a show that chronicles the history of Brazil from its roots in Africa to the modern day. The dance will be fresh and exciting, whilst just as passionate as it first was when it was performed on the streets of Brazil in the early days of the company. The show has been put together by a team that received no professional training prior to their work; instead they have been self-taught since they got together and hail from poor backgrounds (the show’s title translated to “Street Ballet”). It makes their achievement, in producing an acclaimed show that has been seen all over the world, all the more impressive.
But then, we would not expect any less from the Peacock Theatre, which has regularly presented the best in world dance on its stage in London. Those armed with theatre tickets have been able to witness an abundance of spectacles take to its stage and these factors make it, alongside Sadler’s Wells, one of the best places to witness some of the best dance show the world has to offer. The 2010 season also sees the annual production of “The Snowman” appear, with audiences flocking to witness the classic tale during the Christmas months.
With the Balé de Rua, choreographer Marco Antônio Garcia has put together something truly breathtaking alongside the director Paul Desveaux. Together they have put a smile on the faces of audiences everywhere, who have relished in the dancing onstage and found the spectacle contagious.
