An interesting production is heading to the stage of Trafalgar Studios 2 this July with Ian MacFarlane as director and a cast made up of Ellen Greene, Steven Webb, Ashleigh Gray and Benedict Salter. The show is “Betwixt!”, which originally made its way to the stage back in 2008 and presents a strange and unique story set in modern day New York City. With a prophecy, a disembodied head, a Princess and a Nymph Queen all making up a part of the plot, it is certainly going to be something to remember when London theatre audiences make the trip to the West End this summer.
The main focus of “Betwixt!” is two flatmates that live in New York City and it is this duo that find themselves at the centre of said prophecy. One of them is Bailey who is battling it out against writers’ block and the other is Cooper Fitzgerald, his flamboyant roommate. The prophecy involves a brave hero (Bailey) and a great queen (Fitzgerald) and the resemblance between their lives and the description is difficult to ignore, so they must head out on an important quest. This involves tracking down a daytime television star, with various strange incidents along the way.
Actor Steven Webb appears in the West End show as part of a career that has seen him appear onscreen and onstage over the years. In the former category he has made his name with “Bad Girls” and “The Inbetweeners”, whilst also making his way to the big screen with “To Kill a King” and “Nobody’s Perfect”. His theatre credits include production at The National Theatre like “On Shore of the Wide World” (Cottesloe) and “The History Boys” (Lyttelton), in addition to “Oliver!” at the London Palladium and “The Maids at the Etcetera Theatre.
“Betwixt!” appears at the Trafalgar Studios in the same year as productions like “Belongings”, which runs from June to July at Studios 2, whilst Simon Callow appears in “Being Shakespeare” at Trafalgar Studios 1, also from June to July. So a wide variety of shows will arrive at the West End venue in the months ahead.
“Betwixt!” gets its official opening at Trafalgar Studios 2 on Thursday 28th July 2011 (with previews from Tuesday 26th July 2011). It then continues to Saturday 20th August 2011.
Please note: Lizzie Roper will replace Ellen Greene from 22nd August.
