There are plenty of shows appearing in the West End later in the year that showcase the singing talents of some big name female stars. These concerts, briefly running at a London theatre for a limited run, tend to attract big crowds as some familiar songs are performed and this is why theatre tickets become highly popular items. As such, at the end of September, all eyes will be on the Garrick Theatre as the international star Caroline O’Connor arrives onstage to present her musical extravaganza entitled The Showgirl Within.
And with other shows like Lynda Carter: At Last also appearing in the West End later in the year, it is likely to be a vibrant time in the capital.
Caroline O’Connor is a multi-talented star who has appeared in television shows and some high profile musicals as well. From Broadway and London to Sydney and beyond she has made quite an impression on theatregoers with some impressive performances in shows such as Chicago (Broadway and Australia), Mack and Mabel (Piccadilly Theatre, London), Me and My Girl (Adelphi Theatre, London) and Showboat for the Royal Shakespeare Company. When she has not been earning Laurence Olivier Award nominations for roles such as these she has also been appearing in the likes of Baz Lurhmann’s Moulin Rouge!
So expect a show in which the talented star takes to the stage and performs some classic musical numbers with the help of some skilled dancers and musicians. Her career has seen her appear in some of the best known musicals in town and it has meant that she is well rehearsed in some classic numbers, from West Side Story to Oklahoma! in addition to those already mentioned. It means that audiences will emerge from Caroline O’Connor: The Showgirl Within having witnessed some stand-out versions of timeless songs.
In fact it is likely to be a regular sight at the Garrick Theatre this year as the venue is hosting not only The Showgirl Within but the mentioned Lynda Carter: At Last (featuring the star of the 1970s series Wonder Woman), in addition to the show When We Are Married.
Caroline O’Connor runs at the Garrick Theatre from Monday 27th September 2010 to Sunday 3rd October 2010.
