The capital has been the home of various shows based on books like War Horse by Michael Morpurgo or Les Misérables by Victor Hugo, but from May 2015 the West End welcomes a musical based on the work of American author Stephen King as Carrie The Musical opens at the Southwark Playhouse.

The classic story, which was also turned into a film by Brian De Palma, focuses on the seventeen years old title character who is bullied at school and is seen as a misfit. But as she develops telekinetic powers she suddenly realises she can exact her horrifying revenge on those around her.

Well known for a particularly gory, iconic moment, Carrie was penned in the 1970s and remains a favourite around the world, not only with fans of King but also with cinemagoers and beyond.

This musical version is adapted by the original screenwriter Lawrence D Cohen, plus Dean Pitchford and Michael Gore and has already been seen at locations around the world prior to its London premiere at the Southwark Playhouse. It has also been seen in Stratford-upon-Avon when the Royal Shakespeare Company first displayed it to the world before its Broadway run. So now it is the turn of London theatre audiences to get a look-in.

The show is directed by Gary Lloyd, who has also worked as the director of Thriller Live at the Lyric Theatre, plus Flash Mob at the Peacock Theatre and Genius Of Ray Charles.

Joining a host of other stand-out musicals in the capital, Carrie The Musical makes its London premiere on the stage of the Southwark Playhouse from May 2015.
