Audiences have the opportunity to revisit one of the biggest west end shows of all time this winter as Cats, the hit musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber, returns to the capital. Just as it did in 2014, it takes to the stage of the London Palladium where audiences have seen various high profile performers take on well known parts.

Sir Trevor Nunn, one of the biggest names in British theatre, directs the production, having led it to great success during its last run. As a result it is a must-see performance in the West End and one that will be the most talked-about all over again in 2015.

The story of Cats is based on the pages of T.S. Eliot’s collection Old Possum’s Book Of Practical Cats and focuses on the annual meeting of the Jellicle Cats. The meeting takes place at the Jellicle Ball and it is here that they witness their leader, Old Deuteronomy, as he makes a big announcement. The wise old cat, whose own life has stretched back many years, will inform them of the identity of the cat who will be going to The Heaviside Layer, a location in which they will be reborn.

Cats previously ran at the New London theatre and during its time became the longest running musical of all time (it opened in 1981 and closed in 2002). Though it has since been surpassed by Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera in terms of performance numbers, it remains one of the most famous musicals in the world. It has won Laurence Olivier Awards and has also been staged on Broadway and beyond, so its West End return is one that is made with much fanfare.

Trevor Nunn returns to direct having not only done so for the 2014 (alongside Chrissie Cartwright), but also as the show’s original director at the New London Theatre. The acclaimed practitioner has also brought many other famous West End shows to the capital, from A Chorus of Disapproval to the mentioned Les Miserables, and he has been the recipient of many Laurence Olivier Awards.

Cats returns for its latest run in the capital at the London Palladium from Friday 23rd October 2015.
