Cendrillion

The tale of “Cinderella” has fans all over the world and they regularly come out of the woodwork to witness the abundance of shows on offer. Amongst the different versions is the story of “Cendrillon” and this season at the Royal Opera House this classic opera will be returning to the stage once again. It has been a favourite of audiences since it first emerged in the 1890s and was first performed at the Opera-Comique in Paris in 1899 and so it is clear that it has come a long way in the last century, with its latest appearance arriving on the stage over 110 years since this premiere.

Other shows appearing this season include Puccini’s “Tosca” and “Madama Butterfly”, in addition to a wealth of other productions, and as a result this is a great time to pick up opera tickets and relish in the offerings from the Royal Opera House.

The Opera version of the classic fairy tale was penned by Jules Massenet and features a libretto by Henri Cain and is just one version of a fairy tale that goes back centuries.

“Cendrillon” appears at the Royal Opera House from Tuesday 5th July 2011 to Saturday 16th July 2011.
