Take a classic 1987 film and sprinkle it with West End magic this Christmas as Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story On Stage makes a triumphant return to the capital. This time the show runs at the Phoenix Theatre and it will mark a festive treat for theatregoers when it plays throughout December.
Exploring the love affair between ‘Baby’ Houseman and her dance instructor Johnny Castle, Dirty Dancing takes us to the Catskill Mountains, New York, in the 1960s, where we meet numerous characters and experience an array of well known musical numbers.
‘Baby’ heads out to the holiday resort in the mountains with her family and they do not approve of what unfolds as she learns some exotic dance moves from Johnny and strikes up a passionate bond in the process. It is a summer that she will never forget and for audiences around the world it has proven to be a story they can never forget as well.
This is why the hit film has been adapted for the stage and has been seen around the country. The show previously played in the West End at the Aldwych Theatre and later the Piccadilly Theatre, in addition to regional venues on tour, but this Christmas return shows that audiences still cannot get enough of this whirlwind story.
The cast of this brief revival includes Lewis Griffiths, Katie Hartland, Carlie Milner, Sione Craddock, Roger Martin, Jo Servi, Lizzie Ottley, Michael Kent, Greg Fossard, Tony Stansfield, Daniele Pobega and Camilla Rowland, amongst others.
Dirty Dancing returns to the West End for a Christmas run at the Phoenix Theatre beginning on Tuesday 6th December 2016.
