Audiences arriving at the London Coliseum for the current season may wish to pick up opera tickets to the only opera put together by the legendary Beethoven – Fidelio – which runs at the prestigious venue from September 2013. The celebrated piece has been around for over two hundred years now and whilst the production has been revised since then it is still a show that manages to attract an impressive audience.
The plot of Fidelio focuses on Leonore, who strives to do anything to rescue her husband Florestan – who has been imprisoned because of his political views. Her plan involves disguising herself as a prison guard named Fidelio and removing him from a situation that result in certain death. With beautiful music from the pen of Ludvig van Beethoven, and a performance from Emma Bell as Leonore, plus some wonderful additional performances from a cast of talented operatic players like Philip Horst and James Creswell, Fidelio at the London Coliseum is likely to be a must-see event for those wishing to pick up theatre tickets and witness it first-hand.
Edward Gardner, the ENO Music Director is to conduct the productions when it plays in London, whilst Stuart Skelton is also set to appear as Florestan (though this will exclude performances on Tuesday 1st and Thursday 3rd October 2013).
Fidelio is at the London Coliseum from Wednesday 25th September 2013.
