In May 2014 a one-off performance of the Broadway hit Godspell will be performed at the Lyric Theatre in London’s West End. Stephen Schwartz’s musical, which featured a book by John-Michael Tebelak, has not been seen by those with theatre tickets in the West End since the early 1970s and so this will be an unbeatable opportunity to see a musical classic.
A charity performance, Godspell In Concert will see an array of talented performers tackle a piece that wowed audiences on the other side of the Atlantic in the early 1970s and continued to make an impression in new locations as its legacy grew. Though it has been seen on Broadway since, this brief West End appearance is the first for a long time and as a result it is not something to be missed.
In aid of Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, Godspell In Concert will let audiences experience the series of stories based on the Gospel of Matthew that the show is known for. As well as these parables, the show also features a live band and choir to make the piece really come to life.
With songs like Light Of The World, Day By Day and others it is likely to make an impression on a new generation of theatreogers, who might not be familiar with the show even though it does have Stephen Schwartz as a composer, who is perhaps best known to modern audiences for his work with Wicked.
The Lyric Theatre remains the home of Michael Jackson celebration Thriller Live, with Godspell In Concert appearing for one night on Monday 19th May 2014.
