The summer months will provide an unbeatable opportunity to witness some memorable stories in a unique setting as the annual Open Air Theatre season takes place in Regent’s Park.

The 2016 season makes sure it stands out as it celebrates the enormously popular musical Jesus Christ Superstar, the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice hit that regularly attracts audiences wherever it is seen around the world. It has been staged in London on numerous occasions and will be a perfect addition to the Open Air Theatre line-up.

For this production, producers have recruited Declan Bennett to play the title role, with the Open Air Theatre’s Artistic Director Timothy Sheader calling the shots. With some well known talents bringing it to the stage it this will be a show to look out for, whether you are familiar with the musical or not.

Jesus Christ Superstar takes its cues from the Gospels as we look at the last week in the life of the Son of God. It was first staged on Broadway back in the 1970s, making this version in 2016 a landmark production that appears 45 years since the premiere (and five years since the Arena tour on the back of the ITV talent show Superstar).

When audiences witness Bennett’s portrayal of Jesus they will undoubtedly think back to his previous appearances on a London stage, such as once at the Phoenix Theatre. He has performed on both sides of the Atlantic, played a part in the ongoing series EastEnders and has also various albums.

Jesus Christ Superstar appears at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre from Friday 15th July 2016.
