The London Coliseum will be the home of an array of stand-out shows over the coming year but from April 2013 all eyes will be on the return of Giacomo Puccini’s “Le Bohème”, Once again interpreted by the acclaimed Jonathan Miller. The four-act opera is a famous piece and has been so ever since it was first seen by audiences at the end of the 19th century; so much so that it is now one of the most widely recognised pieces in the world.
Its story of a tragic romance between the poet Rofolfo and the seamstress Mimi in 1830s Paris is updated to the 20th century in Miller’s version of Puccini’s work and this has allowed the piece to be enduringly relevant as its popularity continues in the 21st century.
Ever since it was first seen by audiences at the Teatro Regio in Turin in 1896 it has been seen all over the world on regular occasions, leading up to its contemporary appearances at the London Coliseum, whether it has been the classic version by Puccini or the modern version by Miller.
So in a year that also sees the likes of “Death in Venice” and “Medea”, among others, “Le Bohème” begins its performances at the London Coliseum on Monday 29th April 2013.
