The classic opera from Giacomo Puccini, La bohème, makes its way back to the stage of the Royal Opera House in the summer of 2015 with tenor Joseph Calleja as Rodolfo and soprano Anna Netrebko as Mimi. This must-see staging of a renowned opera also features Dan Ettinger as conductor and will take on the guise of John Copley’s production from 1974, taking audiences back in time to continental Europe.

Set in 1830s Paris, we meet the character of Rodolfo, the struggling artist who meets Mimi and quickly falls in love with her. But their romance hits an insurmountable hurdle when it is revealed that Mimi is ill, causing Rodolfo to split with her – his lack of money leaving him unable to care for her. This separation continues until their tragic reunion at the end of Mimi’s life.

Netrebko has appeared around the world, entertaining adoring crowds with her amazing voice, which has seen her appear in the likes of Don Giovanni and make appearances as a performer in prestigious venues. This is also true of Joseph Calleja, playing Rodolfo, who has appeared with the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera and more in productions like La Traviata and Les Contes d’Hoffmann.

In a year that also brings Cubanía to the venue, La bohème runs at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden from Saturday 23rd May 2015.
