It’s the turn of the Arts Theatre to welcome Kerry Ellis to its stage in 2016 as a new musical comes to the West End. The well known star of the capital’s theatres, famous for appearing in some of the West End’s most popular shows, will take audiences to New York for a show that deals with romance and disappointment in life.

Murder Ballad is the work of Julia Jordan and Juliana Nash, who premiered the production on the other side of the Atlantic back in 2013. Now it is finally the turn of West End audiences to experience this stand-out musical, which features a book by Jordan and music by Nash, with the pair collaborating on lyrics.

Its story takes us to New York and we meet the characters of Sara, Tom and Michael and whilst we deal with romance we also delve into their life goals. It is clear that their worlds are not the ones that they initially desired and we meet them at a crossroads in their lives when big decisions might have to be made.

It is likely to be a well received hit, particularly with the names working to bring it to us in the West End. After all, you don’t get much bigger than Kerry Ellis, whose work as Elphaba in Wicked earned her great praise on both sides of the Atlantic. But whilst she earned a lot of attention for that show in London and New York, she has also appeared in a wealth of other shows like My Fair Lady at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre, Les Misérables at the Queen’s Theatre and, more recently, Cats at the London Palladium.

So she brings plenty of experience to the table as she adds Murder Ballad at the Arts Theatre to her long list of credits. The production runs at the Arts Theatre from Thursday 29th September 2016.
