18-22 Greenside Place
The Edinburgh Playhouse is situated on Greenside Place, at the top of Leith Walk and close to the east end of Princes Street. This is less than 10 minute's walk from Waverley Station, 5 minutes walk from the bus station and on various major bus routes.
The Edinburgh Playhouse continues to be the home of some stand-out touring musicals in 2012 as it welcomes a West End classic to its stage in 2012. The hit “Oliver!” is set to appear at the venue at the end of May and in doing so the Playhouse will welcome Brian Conley as well. It is the touring version of “Oliver the Musical”, which completed its run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane before making way for “Shrek The Musical” to open last year.
But whilst London theatre audiences miss out on this classic story, those in the Scottish capital will be able to relish in the impressive performances and memorable songs.
“Oliver!” is best known for the scene in which the title character is in a work house food hall and dares to approach authority and ask “Please sir, can I have some more?” It is a daring thing to ask and it lands him back out in the street, forced to fend for himself. The London of the 19th century is a large, cold and dangerous place to be and as a result he happens upon a range of colourful characters from the well known Fagin (Conley) to the Artful Dodger.
With the likes of “Dirty Dancing” heading to the venue later in the year, the Edinburgh Playhouse has a good year ahead of it and prior to that it welcomes “Oliver!” from Wednesday 30th May 2012 to Saturday 23rd June 2012.
