The Edinburgh Playhouse welcomes a celebrated musical that has entertained audiences around the world. “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” is a story of friendship and romance in the Australian outback and it took the West End by storm when it ran at the Palace Theatre with Jason Donovan among those in a lead role. In addition to a successful Broadway run and a welcome appearance at home in Australia, the show has many fans and now it gets to add the musical theatre supporters in the Scottish capital to the long list of People clamouring to pick up theatre tickets.
What exactly is ‘Priscilla’ you might ask? The beloved item from which the show gains it title is in fact a tatty old bus that takes a performance trio out into the Australian outback on the biggest adventure of their career. Drag queen Tick leads Bernadette and Adam from their home in Sydney, where audiences are used to their famous act, to a casino in Alice Springs and their adventure will combine friendship and romance with many memories. But it being a musical that show also features hit songs like “I Love The Nightlife”, “I Will Survive” and “Don’t Leave Me This Way”, among others.
With other West End hits like “Hairspray” making an appearance in 2013, “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” arrives among great company and is sure to put a smile on the faces of eager audiences.
