There is one circus company that regularly manages to impress despite stiff competition and a hectic schedule and they proved this once again with “Traces” in 2009. Critics were quick to hail the piece and once again The 7 Fingers, or Les 7 doigts de la Main as they are known back home, stood out amongst the crowd.
“Traces” started out life at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2007, before offering the dizzying spectacle to London audiences at a later date. The unique displays of creativity became the talk of the town and every reviewer and circus fan in the land looked towards The 7 Fingers for the work they would emerge with next.
This takes the form of “Psy”, another opportunity for audiences to witness The 7 Fingers show other circus companies how it is done. They are presenting their latest work at the Peacock Theatre following a nationwide tour and it is likely to turn as many heads as “Traces” last year. So if you are a fan of unbeatable circus theatrics, getting hold of “Psy” tickets is a must.
The 7 Fingers hail from Montreal and first emerged in 2002, taking everything they had learned with the Cirque du Soleil and Teatro Zinzanni and moulding it into a unique voice on the circuit. This dynamic group soon emerged with their debut show “LOFT” and from here their name has taken off in a big way as they take the world by storm. So they are no strangers to success and whenever a new show rolls its way into the capital you can be certain that any big fan of the circus will flock to the venue and attempt to take in everything they see.
With “Psy”, The 7 Fingers have decided to explore the human psyche and the ways in which human beings go about overcoming the ailments that might be rattling them. To demonstrate this, the performers embark on spectacular displays of acrobatics as distorted images from the mind play out behind them. As the unbelievable skills take centre stage the audience will see manifestations of dreams and memories come to life whilst the colourful characters portrayed use circus skills to treat their own psychological ticks.
“Psy”, from The 7 Fingers, is at the Peacock Theatre from Wednesday 28th April 2010 to Saturday 15th May 2010.
