When it comes to great improvisational theatre, one of the biggest names around is The Showstoppers, the troupe that has wowed audiences around the country with their impressive improvised musicals. Now their show, Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, finally returns to the West End for a run at the Lyric Theatre, where audiences will be able to relish in this unique and vibrant show that creates a completely new story with different characters each night.
This is the latest occasion in which Showstopper! has been seen in the West End following its run at the Apollo Theatre. The show has also enjoyed a high profile appearance at the Udderbelly on South Bank in 2011. So it is something that audiences can’t get enough of as it returns again and again.
And this time around a huge audience will be able to fill another historic West End venue as the team puts together a brand new performance. In the past the unique stories that have been devised for the stage include a romance at Heathrow Airport and a story concerning communist vampires. But as this is totally improvised, audiences can expect something completely different even from those!
But then, improvisation is what they do best. Creators Adam Meggido and Dylan Emery have a lot of experience on the improv circuit and have both appeared on stages around the country. Meggido, for example, has taken part in the London 50-Hour Improvathon and has also starred in his own (scripted) plays kike Chaos Of Delight. Emery has taken to the stage as part of both Grant Theft Impro and The School Of Night, whilst also walking the boards at some of London’s prestigious venues.
Showstopper! The Improvised Musical remains one of the most vibrant, unique and varied of shows in the capital, offering something new for those seeing it for the first, second, or third times. As it returns to the West End it is definitely something to see again and again.
Showstopper! The Improvised Musical is at the Lyric theatre from February 2016.
