The Savoy Theatre in London’s West End has previously been the home to some of the capital’s biggest shows, whether it’s the recent “Legally Blonde the Musical” and “The Sunshine Boys” or the upcoming “Cabaret”. But before the latter makes its way to the stage in the Autumn another show is set to head to this well known West End venue for a brief run from August to September – one that gives audiences an insight into the world inhabited by a world famous singing superstar – Tina Turner – in “Soul Sister”.

Emi Wokoma portrays Tina Turner in the production, whilst Chris Tummings will take on the role of Ike Turner, allowing the show to explore the relationship between the two of them as their fame rises. We witness their ups and downs during the 1960s, 1970s and beyond as Tina Turner emerges as a global superstar on her own.

But it being a musical the show is also full of some hit songs from the back catalogue of the singing sensation, so expect performances of the likes of “Simply the Best”, “What’s Love Got to Do With It?”, “Respec” and more when this show makes its way to the stage.

Emi Wokoma has numerous credits to her name and one of them – “Porgy and Bess” – saw her appear at the Savoy previously, whilst another – “Mass Carib” – saw her work for the Nitro Theatre Company. Meanwhile, she may also be recognisable to those with theatre tickets for her appearances on shows like “Casualty” and “EastEnders” in recent years.

“Soul Sister” is directed by both Pete Brooks and Bob Easton, the former of whom devised the project with John Miller (who produces with Bill Kenwright). It previously appeared at the Hackney Empire Theatre earlier in the year.

“Soul Sister” will briefly play at the Savoy Theatre from Thursday 23rd August 2012 (with previews from Monday 20th August 2012) until Saturday 29th September 2012.
