In 2013 audiences witnessed the second film in the successfully rebooted Star Trek franchise and the reception was spectacular. But this would not have been possible without its impressive score composed by Michael Giacchino and with this in mind the Royal Albert Hall will welcome something all Star Trek fans will clamour to see.

The Royal Albert Hall performance will see Star Trek Into Darkness screened in HD on a big screen whilst a live orchestra – the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra and Chorus – provides live musical backing. It is not something that audiences will want to miss come May, particularly once they’ve experienced the separate performance of the 2009 Star Trek movie the day before.

The Star Trek franchise was created by Gene Roddenberry back in the 1960s and originally featured William Shatner and Leonard Limoy in the iconic roles of Captain Kirk and Spock. For the 2009 reboot JJ Abrams recruited Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto for these parts, in addition to further talented performers, and reintroduced the classic set-up to new audiences.

This performance is part of a series at the Royal Albert Hall that will celebrate classic films with live orchestral accompaniment, with The Lord Of The Rings trilogy amongst the stand-out examples in recent times. This July, for example, audiences can witness West Side Story in the same way.

Audiences can see Star Trek Into Darkness at the Royal Albert Hall from Friday 30th May 2014.

Note: The BBFC certificate for the movie is 12A
