The London Coliseum will be the home to “Strictly Gershwin” in January 2012 following previous appearances at other venues including the prestigious Royal Albert Hall. It will be an opportunity for audiences to celebrate the work of the acclaimed George Gershwin, the composer behind a wealth of well known pieces. So those with Theatre Tickets can relish in the music made famous in stand-out Hollywood musicals as a bygone era is recreated onstage, with ballroom, jazz, tap and ballet take centre stage. For fans of big band and a classic era of Hollywood, this is not a show to miss.
George Gershwin was an American composer and pianist who was behind a wealth of compositions during the 1920s and 1930s before his death in 1937. In 1924 he penned “Rhapsody in Blue”, which continues to have an influence to this day, and in addition to this he is also known for “An American in Paris” from 1928, among others. His operas include “Porgy and Bess” from 1935 and “Blue Monday” from 1922 and his work also arrived in London with the musical “Primrose” in the 1920s. So he was an enormously influential man whose legacy lives on to this day.
