Surely one of the most anticipated productions in the capital, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street is set to entertain audiences at the London Coliseum from March 2015 following its successful recent appearance in New York.

Emma Thompson and Bryn Terfel will take on lead roles in the production, just as they did at the Lincoln Centre on Broadway, and their appearances in the show will undoubtedly attract a great deal of attention, leading audiences to flock for theatre tickets.

The musical is the work of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler and originally appeared in front of audiences back in the 1970s when it premiered on Broadway. Since then it has become one of the best known musicals around, leading to appearances worldwide and even a hit movie version starring Johnny Depp. It was most recently seen in the capital when it ran at the Adelphi Theatre from 2012.

The story takes us to 19th century London where we meet the demonic barber Benjamin Barker, better known as Sweeney Todd, who returns from his false imprisonment and learns something that will make him want to seek revenge even more. He works alongside Mrs Lovett, the pie show owner, to concoct a plan that will inflict the justice he desires on a world that wronged him.

Emma Thompson needs no introduction following a career that has seen her win numerous awards (including an Academy Award and BAFTA) and appear in numerous high profile films, including the recent Saving Mr Banks. This will be the first time in decades that audiences in the capital can see her on a London stage. Meanwhile, co-star Bryn Terfel is a bass-baritone who has fans worldwide.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street is at the London Coliseum for 13 performances from Monday 30th March 2015.
