The Arts Theatre is the home of “The Tailor Made Man” from February, which sees Steps star Faye Tozer and “Chariots of Fire” actor Dylan Turner appear on the stage. The show is a musical adaptation of the play by Claudio Macor and focuses on the star of the silent screen William Haines, whose career was ruined due to his sexuality.
Haines, though a well known name, faced a famous confrontation with the bosses of MGM studios – including Louis B Mayer – after he was arrested with a sailor he had picked up. With his sexuality out in the open he was forced to decide between his career and his lover Jimmie Shields, ultimately opting for the latter. By the time he has passed away in the early 1970s he had spent many years working as an interior designer.
However, during his time in the spotlight he also appeared in a movie called “A Tailor Mande Man”, an MGM comedy from which this show gains its name.
Faye Tozer is best known for her work with the pop band Steps with whom she has released albums like “Step One”, “Steptacular”, “Buzz” and 2012’s “Light up the World”. However, she has also carved out a career on the stage that has seen her appear in the likes of “Dial M for Murder” and “Tell Me on a Sunday” on tour.
Meanwhile, Dylan Turner has also carved out a successful stage career, having appeared in stage shows like “Chariots of Fire” at the Gielgud Theatre and “Rock of Ages” at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Audiences that pick up theatre tickets might also recognise him from the movie version of “Mamma Mia!”
“The Tailor Made Man” is set to begin its run at the Arts Theatre on Wednesday 13th February 2013.
