In May 2014 the Liverpool Empire becomes the home of The Lion King, the hit West End musical that has been entertaining audiences in the capital since the late 1990s, and it does so as part of a UK tour that also includes stops at the Edinburgh Playhouse and others. Based on the famous movies of the same name, it takes audiences to The Pride Land of Africa where they are taken on a journey with Simba the Lion Cub and his path to redemption.
The 1994 movie is an iconic work that introduced audiences to some wonderful characters and captivated them with the stand-out music of Elton John. These are among the spectacular aspects of the original story to make it into the stage version with Can You Feel The Love Tonight? And Circle Of Life among the numbers.
Then there’s the story. First we witness the birth of the heir to the throne, Simba, and from there we witness him growing up in the Pride Land under the watch of his father King Mufasa. But when Simba’s Uncle Scar causes Mufasa’s death and pins it on him, Simba flees and it is only when he is truly ready that he returns to the Pride Land to face Scar once and for all.
Audiences can pick up theatre tickets as The Lion King is at the Liverpool Empire from Friday 16th May 2014.
