I knew nothing of The Ring Cycle apart from The Valkyries so was in the dark on arrival. I found the performance a little bizzare but highly entertaining and thought the cast were excellent! The use of the washing machine was inspired! Now I know the story I think Wagner must have been a little crazy!!!
Definitely would recommend.
Exhilarating, deeply musical, and clever. Coherently tells 'The Ring Cycle' epic tale, with tongue firmly in cheek and complete artistic commitment to its delivery. Speaking as someone who has experience ,ore than one 'Ring', I'd say it does a fabulous job of connecting people for whom Wagner is no more known than the best tune in 'Apocalyspe Now', with the might of his composition, minus the nasty undertones. Bravo, too, the pianist. See it!
I found the first half of this show a real disappointment, what were 'they' thinking!.. Wagner's grand score merely tinkled out on a single tinny baby grand piano with the music always secondary to the dire ham acting. Afraid I am unable to advise if the second half improved for we left the venue at the interval. For a central London Venue, one expects far better than this evenings offering.
