This September audiences can revisit the classic story Vanities as the musical version of the hit play makes its way to London’s West End. Exploring the ups and downs of three best friends throughout their lives together, the show has won fans on the other side of the Atlantic and it is clear that crowds can’t get enough of this story that takes us through the 1960s and 1970s whilst showing us what it was like to grow up in Dallas during this time.
Vanities introduces us to the characters of Joanne, Mary and Kathy and we first meet them as they are growing up, attending high school together, and we continue to witness their lives develop through college, graduation and beyond, with and of the ups and downs that life brings.
Lauren Samuels, Ashleigh Gray and Lizzy Connolly bring these roles to fruition at the Trafalgar Studios and it is clear that they have the experience and the talent to do this justice. Connolly for example, has appeared in numerous well-received shows like Mrs Henderson Presents at the Noel Coward Theatre, Xanadu at the Southwark Playhouse, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Savoy Theatre and WAG – The Musical at the Charing Cross Theatre.
So they will be making a big impression when they appear in the West End for Vanities The Musical under the direction of Racky Plews. The show is based on the 1976 play from writer Jack Heifner and features musical numbers penned by David Kirshenbaum, with examples like Hey There Beautiful, An Organised Life, Fly Into The Future and Friendship Isn’t What It Used To Be, amongst others.
Vanities The Musical is at the Trafalgar Studios from Thursday 1st September 2016.
