“Thriller Live” continues to bring in the crowds at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, with fans of the late King of Pop hoping for the chance to celebrate the legendary career of a man who released chart hit after chart hit for decades.
A famous touring musical, “Thriller Live” celebrates not only the solo career of Michael Jackson but also his time singing alongside siblings in The Jackson 5. It features a wide range of songs from various eras and has been a popular addition to stages across Europe, including Holland, Scandinavia and Germany, where it appeared before it opened in London’s West End in January 2009.
Michael Jackson was a musician that everyone had heard of, with a career that spanned across four decades, producing a back catalogue of records that sold hundreds of millions around the world. “Thriller” alone is still the best selling album of all time and altogether his record sales have amassed 750 million units. It made his death in 2009 all the more shocking, and people flocked to the Lyric Theatre on its announcement, to celebrate the life of the famous singer.
To make sure that fans can experience something as close to witnessing Jackson live as possible, “Thriller Live” features some incredible songs alongside spectacular choreography. A lot of money has been put into creating an authentic experience, with high production values and a wide range of talented individuals onstage.
The show’s producer Derek Nicol elaborates on the experience it offers, whilst offering a further explanation to its success in a time of financial worry, declaring it “an uplifting, feel-good show with incredible choreography and sensational songs that everyone knows and loves — it's just the sort of escapist entertainment people need to take their minds off how tough life is at the moment”.
Songs that feature onstage include Jackson 5 and solo hits alike, including “ABC”, “Dirty Diana”, “Earth Song”, “Beat It”, “Ben”, “Man In The Mirror”, “She’s Out Of My Life”, “Can You Feel It”, “I’ll Be There”, “Rock With You”, “Show You The Way To Go”, “Billie Jean” and of course “Thriller”.
