Triple Bill

The Mikhailovsky ballet brings another production to the stage of London’s Coliseum with their Triple Bill, which wowed audiences back in 2008. Ballet lovers from the capital and beyond can relish in three glorious performances that take the form of “Le Halte de Cavelerie” by Marius Petipa, “Sonatas in Minor” by Slava Samodurov and a series of Divertissements, containing dances from “Spartacus” by the Mikhailovsky Theatre and a Pas de Deux from Asaf Messerer called “Spring Waters”. It will be a glorious opportunity to enjoy the work of Russia’s most prestigious theatre company in the form of the Mikhalovsky Theatre, who also stage productions such as “Giselle”, Laurencia and Swan Lake this season.

Le Halte de Cavalerie: Translated to English as “The Cavalry Halt”, Marius Petipa’s production was put together in 1896 and arrives as part of this Triple Bill to impress audiences with the glorious music of Ivan Armsheimer.

Marius Petipa was a choreographer who has been held in high regards in the years since his death in 1910. He is best known for his reinterpretations of classic shows such as “Swan Lake”, with his 1884 version of “Giselle” becoming the standard version that audiences witness even in the modern day. As a result, his effect on the world of ballet and on popular culture is profound and with “Le Halte de Cavalerie”, audiences at the London Coliseum will witness the work of a master.

Sonatas in Minor: Audiences will not simply be witnessing a repeat of classic texts in the upcoming Triple Bill. Instead they will also experience a new work from Slava Samodurov entitled “Sonatas in Minor”, which he has put together for the Mikhailovsky Theatre Company to great success.

The Divertissements: A range of dances make up this part of the show, with work from “Spartacus” from the Mikhailovsky Theatre and further pas de deux from Asaf Messerer entitled “Spring Waters”.

These productions will be a welcome addition to the Coliseum’s line up this year, with the Mikhailovsky Theatre proving once again that they are a ballet team to be reckoned with, having been a leading force for over 150 years.

The Mikhailovsky Theatre’s Triple Bill appears at the London Coliseum on Sunday 18th July 2010.
