From acclaimed Croatian playwright Tena Štivičić comes 3 Winters, a story that focuses on a family in Croatia from 1945 to 2011. It appears at the Lyttelton National Theatre in London from November 2014 and welcomes an impressive cast work under the direction of Howard Davies, the Associate Director of the National Theatre.

This cast includes Lucy Black, Susan Engel, Siobhan Finneran, Jo Herbert, Gerald Kyd and Josie Walker, all of whom have a range of previous credits to their names, with many previously appearing in an array of shows for the National.

3 Winters takes us to a country that has seen different rules appear and disappear over many decades and through this tumultuous landscape a family struggles to survive and we follow them as they gather for the wedding of Lucia. From communism to democracy and from war to the formation of the EU, the family remains in place.

This is the first time that Tena Štivičić has penned work for the prestigious South Bank venue, though she has previously displayed work at venues across Europe, with English-language works including Goldoni Terminus, Two Of Us and Can’t Escape Sundays, among others. She is a talented writer whose work has earned her great praise.

This is also true for director Howard Davies, a familiar name to anyone that has regularly frequented the National Theatre. His credits for the venue have included everything from Children of the Sun to Juno and the Paycock, plus many others. It ensures that 3 Winters is in safe and familiar hands as it appears at the Lyttelton National Theatre in a year that also brings Treasure Island to its sister venue the Olivier.

3 Winters is at the Lyttelton National Theatre from Wednesday 26th November 2014.
