The St James Theatre is the home of the latest revival of the classic play Accolade, which appears from November 2014 with Alexander Hanson in a lead role. The show was penned by Emlyn Williams and first emerged at the start of the 1950s, where audiences relished in picking up theatre tickets and witnessing a shocking and utterly absorbing drama that presents an unsettling view of society and its press.
With Hanson playing the lead role of Will Trenting, Abigail Cruttenden plays his wife Rona, with further cast members including Bruce Alexander, Sam Clemmett, Claire Cox, Daniel Crossley, Jay Taylor and Jay Villiers. Blanche McIntyre directs.
The plot focuses on the mentioned Trenting, an author with secrets that have every chance of remaining hidden up until the point that he is given a knighthood. Suddenly the press is interested in him and in the glare of the British newspapers these secrets could be exposed. It is a compelling story, dealing with sex, blackmail and more, and has regularly attracted great praise, including during recent productions in London.
Alexander Hanson has appeared in a range of show’s in London’s West End, including some high profile musicals like Stephen Ward at the Aldwych Theatre and We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre He also appeared in Jesus Chris Superstar on a UK tour and worked on plays at the National Theatre, so he is well equipped to bring the character of Will Trenting to life.
Accolade runs at the St James Theatre from Wednesday 12th November 2014 to Saturday 13th December 2014.
