As Is, the 1985 play by William M Hoffman, runs at Trafalgar Studios 2 this summer. The production, hitting the stage under the direction of Andrew Keates, plays the smaller of the two studio spaces in Whitehall and welcomes a cast that includes Steven Webb, David Poyner and Natalie But, amongst others, and in the process gives those with theatre tickets an opportunity to see an unmissable show.
A powerful story that deals with the effects of AIDS in the 1980s, As Is transports us to the New York of 1985 and introduces us to the character of Rich, an emerging writer whose life is about to take an unexpected turn. He splits with his lover, Saul and turns to a new lover, but soon discovers that he has contracted the horrible disease, meaning that he has a painful journey ahead of him back in the arms of Saul.
It is one of many plays penned by William M Hoffman, whose credits also include Thank You Miss Victoria and A Book Of Etiquette, amongst others. With As Is, he made headlines for its depictions of AIDS when the disease was a relatively new issue.
Steven Webb appears in the production having made his name in a wealth of high profile shows around the country. His recent credits include the Lyric Hammersmith productions Cinderella and Aladdin, whilst he has also appeared in Public Property at the Trafalgar Studios.
As Is runs at Trafalgar Studios 2 from Friday 3rd July 2015 (previews from Wednesday 1st July 2015).
