Neil Labute’s Bash: Latterday Plays, a collection of three plays, comes to the Trafalgar Studios 2 in London’s West End following its successful appearance at the Old Red Lion Theatre. It offers the opportunity to witness the famous three-piece show under the direction of Jonathan O’Boyle and featuring a cast that includes Philip Scott-Wallace, Dani Harrison, Tom Vallen and Rebecca Hickey.
The three single act plays begin with Iphigenia In Orem, which takes audiences to Las Vegas and focuses on a Utah businessman as he tells of a horrible crime to a stranger in a hotel room. It is presented as a monologue as a man confesses the crime to an unseen second person. The second play is A Gaggle Of Saints, which sees two young Mormons address the audience separately and describe the events of a New York City night. Finally, we witness Medea Redux as a chain-smoking woman describes a relationship with a junior high school teacher and the chilling aftermath.
Playwright Neil LaBute has been behind a wealth of plays during his career, whilst also working in the film industry on the likes of Death At A Funeral and Nurse Betty. His credits, in addition to 1999’s Bash: Latterday Plays, include In The Company Of Men, Fat Pig, The Furies and In A Forest, Dark And Deep, among many others.
Bash: Latterday Plays appears at Trafalgar Studios 2 following Jasper Rees’ I Found My Horn. It enjoys a brief run at the Whitehall venue from Tuesday 13th May 2014.
