Common

Take a gloomy and comic trip back to the Industrial Revolution in DC Moore’s new play Common, which runs at the Olivier National Theatre this summer. It will provide a wonderful opportunity to witness another stand-out show in a year that also brings the likes of Salome (Olivier Theatre), Angels In America (Lyttelton Theatre) and Oslo (Lyttelton Theatre) to South Bank.

As a production headed to one of Britain’s most prestigious venues audiences already know that they are in for a treat when they head to the Olivier stage, but with a director in Jeremy Herrin and a star in Anne-Marie Duff, this will be an unmissable theatrical event.

Common introduces us to the character of Mary, whose world is changing at the hands of the Industrial Revolution and who will stop at nothing to protect her world. It promises to take audiences down a darkly comic and violent path as we follow Mary on her destructive journey.

But we always expect good material when it comes to DC Moore, who has presented a range of top shows over the years. His play The Swan was seen at the National Theatre in 2011 whilst his other work includes Straight, Another Place and The Empire, the latter of which was seen at the Royal Court Theatre and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award.

So it is safe to say audiences are eager to see his latest work, which will see the Artistic Director of the Headlong Theatre Company, Jeremy Herrin, direct an acclaimed actress in Anne-Mary Duff, who also stars in this year’s Heisenberg at the Wyndham’s Theatre. It’s a match-up that ensures eyes will be glued to the stage after curtain call.

Common runs at the Olivier National Theatre from Thursday 20th July 2017.
