A brand new piece of writing that will take a controversial topic and create a thought-provoking and memorable narrative, Consensual runs at the Ambassadors Theatre from September 2015 with the National Youth Theatre shepherding its run. With some talented young performers taking to the stage and direction from Pia Furtardo, the show is set to be a much-talked-about event this year.

It comes from the pen of Evan Placey, an award-winning playwright who has earned his success with various shows around the world, including Banana Boys, Girls Like That (which won him the Writers’ Guild Award for Best Play), Wild For Tutti Frutti, Holloway Jones and Mother Of Him, amongst many others.

The story deals with the teacher-pupil relationship and the issue of consent, with teacher Diane about to launch a positive new programme at the school. But there’s a problem – Freddie has emerged on the scene, a pupil with whom she had a very intimate night when he was fifteen.

The National Youth Theatre returns to the Ambassadors Theatre following the 2014 season, which saw a retelling of The Picture Of Dorian Gray, Selfie, appear on the stage alongside Private Peaceful and Macbeth. The charity has provided the breaks for many well known stars, including current Bond Daniel Craig, and as a result provides audiences with the means to see future stars of the stage.

This year is presents Consensual alongside Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice and an adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic story Wuthering Heights. They all run in repertoire.

Consensual is at the Ambassadors Theatre from Friday 18th September 2025.
