The Apollo Theatre will form the home of a glamorous show from Hollywood’s Golden Age star Debbie Reynolds in 2010, as the MGM icon takes to the stage in her new show “Alive and Fabulous”, ready to entertain adoring audiences on Shaftesbury Avenue.
Reynolds needs little introduction, having enjoyed great success as a Tinseltown starlet in the 1950s, a time in which she appeared in countless classics of the silver screen. During her heyday, when she was attached to appear in many productions from the studio MGM, she featured in countless classic movies. Her credits eventually led to her being nominated for an Academy Award for her role in “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” and she only lost out to Julie Andrews in her iconic role in “Mary Poppins”.
But Reynolds has iconic roles of her own and her credits include the musical favourite “Singin’ in the Rain”. It was a stand-out role amongst appearances that also included “Bundle of Joy”, “That’s Entertainment” and “Tammy and the Bachelor”. But the 1950s could not contain her and in the decades since she has continued to produce numerous popular appearances to add to her extensive list of credits; during the 1990s she appeared alongside Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston in “The Bodyguard”, whilst a younger generation of audiences will remember her for her role in “Will & Grace”.
“Debbie Reynolds: Alive and Fabulous” will see the icon take to the stage of the Apollo to treat audiences to her account of a long career in the spotlight. Her life has included famous marriages to the likes of Eddie Fisher and working alongside greats like Leslie Nielson, Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire and when she takes to the stage, actual MGM footage will back up her story. As the show progresses, she will sing, she will dance and she will portray the parts of some well known names in show business.
With various Awards to her name, audiences will know they are in the company of a living legend. She is someone who has even allowed the success to run in the family, with her daughter Carrie Fisher becoming world famous for her role as Princess Leia in the original trilogy of “Star Wars” movies.
