Glengarry Glen Ross

Age Restriction: Not suitable for under 12's

David Mamet’s classic play, Glengarry Glen Ross, makes its triumphant return to the West End with some top talent leading the cast.

Few could watch Glengarry Glen Ross and walk away without reeling from what they have just seen. This was true of the film adaptation as well, but from October 2017 London theatre audiences will have a chance to see the story pan out in its true home in the capital and a new generation can be affected by the characters and their actions.

On this occasion two stars from either side of the Atlantic take on lead roles, with American performer Christian Slater appearing alongside Kris Marshall and others, whilst Sam Yates takes on directing duties.

Over the years David Mamet has presented some of the most renowned shows of the last few decades and many of them have made their way to the West End. A recent example was American Buffalo, which starred John Goodman when it ran at the Wyndham’s Theatre in 2015.

That 1975 play emerged almost a decade before Glengarry Glen Ross, which has since become his most famous work. It opened to great success at the National Theatre in 1983, won a Pulitzer Prize and was adapted to the big screen early in the next decade.

It is set in Chicago and focuses on estate agents and the pressure they face as they must sell land at all costs. With unscrupulous characters, including Ricky Roma (Slater), immoral activities and corruption, it is a memorable piece that continues to find new fans.

And in 2017 this will be proven all over again as fans flock to the Playhouse to see Hollywood actor Christian Slater onstage. From films like True Romance to television voice roles in Archer, he has enjoyed a long career in the spotlight since the 1980s. He has also appeared on a London stage on previous occasions as well, with Swimming With Sharks at the Vaudeville Theatre and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest at the Garrick and Gielgud Theatres over the last decade and beyond.

He has also amassed numerous stage credits on the other side of the Atlantic, including appearing in the popular Monty Python musical Spamalot at the Hollywood Bowl and various shows on Broadway.

As well as Slater and Marshall (of My Family and Death In Paradise fame), the cast also includes Robert Glenister, Stanley Townsend and Don Warrington.

Glengarry Glen Ross is at the Playhouse Theatre from Thursday 26th October 2017.
