Audiences have the chance to witness four acclaimed productions from the pen of William Shakespeare as some of his history plays come to life on the stage of the Barbican Theatre. The shows that make up the famous tetralogy from the Bard are performed as part of a season called King And Country by the Royal Shakespeare Company, with four cycles taking place across January 2016.

The cycle begins with Richard II, progressing through Henry IV Parts I and II and then concluding with Henry V, with the theatre tickets covering the whole cycle from beginning to end. From the tragedy covered during the reign of Richard through to the victory of the Battle of Agincourt with Henry V.

Direction is provided by Gregory Doran, who has been behind a wealth of shows for the Royal Shakespeare Company as its Artistic Director. 2016 also sees him direct Anthony Sher in King Lear and previous years have seen him accumulate credits like Death Of A Salesman, Julius Caesar and Written On The Heart, to name but a few. His work also includes a number of productions outside of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Richard II deals with the monarch whose reign led to the War of Roses, with Henry IV Parts I and II going on to deal with his successor as the country prepares for war, introducing characters like Prince Hal and Falstaff. Finally, Henry V deals with Hal, now the King, as he embarks on a victorious journey with the Battle of Agincourt.

The King And Country Cycles run at the Barbican Theatre throughout January 2016. Cycle A runs from 12th January to 14th January. Cycle B from 15th January to 17th January, Cycle C from 19th January to 21st January and Cycle D from 22nd January to 24th January 2016.
