Certainly the finest Lear you will ever see. Possibly the greatest performance in a theatre you will ever see. Our greatest living actress at her peak.7
I saw the 3rd performance, therefore preview. Right from the point when we watched supernumeraries vacuuming carpet on the stage floor over and over again pretending it was needed. Others walking about with headphones etc. Setting up a television production. This concept was carried through the play, it was at odds with a semi naturalist approach, the declamatory way of speech occasionally
interrupted with characters holding scripts.
The fifth act obviously hadnt been rehearsed enough. Actors standing with feet apart as though in buckets of cement. Hopefully the director has helped them for later shows
Seemed ridiculous that Lear was obviously a woman yet constantly referred to as King.
