My Trip Down The Pink Carpet

A well known television personality makes his way to the stage of the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue in January, filling audiences in on his life and career in the spotlight. Entitled “My Trip Down the Pink Carpet” the production is a solo venture from performer Leslie Jordan and if its reaction from the US is replicated on this side of the Atlantic, then we can expect a high turnout of eager London theatre fans when it opens its doors. But then, it is a classic story – a man from a small town in the US who makes the transition to the bright lights of Hollywood – and it will have plenty of people clamouring to pick up theatre tickets.

During the course of “My Trip Down the Pink Carpet”, Leslie Jordan will delve into his childhood dramas before progressing to his time growing up and facing various temptations, before finally landing in Hollywood where, far from landing on his feet, he faced a whole new world. It is a story of one man following his ambitions, with Jordan famously boarding a bus headed for LA, armed only with a small amount of money, and following the American dream.

And since his career kicked-off Stateside he has gone on to appear in some well known shows, including the enormously successful television series “Will & Grace” in which he played Beverley Leslie – the rival to Grace’s assistant Karen (portrayed by Megan Mullaly, who appeared in the West End in early 2010). His other credits include “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”, “Nash Bridges”, “Boston Legal”, “American Dad” and “Ugly Betty”, amongst others. For the stage he has penned and appeared in various shows, with his performances in “Sordid Lives” and “Lost in the Pershing Point Hotel” remaining his most famous.

He may be a small man, but Leslie Jordan has some big stories to tell and it is likely that he will make the stage his own at the Apollo Theatre in 2011, with the West End gearing up to welcome many well known names in their own solo shows. From Sandra Bernhard in “Whatever it Takes” to “Christmas With Lee Mead”, it is a great time to be in the capital.

Leslie Jordan: My Trip Down the Pink Carpet is at the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue from Wednesday 26th January 2011 to Saturday 19th February 2011.
