Trafalgar Studios 2 welcomes Not About Heroes from November 2014. The famous play, penned in the early 1980s by Stephen MacDonald, is directed by Caroline Clegg and will appear at the venue until early December.

Not About Heroes focuses on the character of Siegfried Sassoon and his meeting with Lt Wilfred Owen in 1917. Sassoon is a well known poet who has been protesting against the war, so he is diagnosed with war neurosis and sent to Craiglockhart War Hospital as a way of keeping him quiet and it is here that he meets the injured Lieutenant. Their friendship has an effect on them both and their outlook on the war is changed, eventually leading to their return to the front line, with tragic results.

Stephen MacDonald was a well known actor, director and writer whose work has been seen on numerous occasions. Not About Heroes remains his most famous work and premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre in 1982 before playing to audiences at the National Theatre, London, and in New York. It also toured the country and earned great success in regional theatres. MacDonald also served as the Artistic Director of the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh, a well known venue in the Scottish capital.

This year the Trafalgar Studios 2 is also the home of Land Of Our Fathers, concerning workers stuck in a coal mine in the late 1970s, and Dessa Rose, dealing with a black woman and a white woman in the American South of the 19th century. Cynthia Erivo has a starring role in the latter.

Not About Heroes, however, runs at the West End venue from Monday 10th November 2014.
