Terrible Advice

The Menier Chocolate Factory regularly plays host to some stand out shows and many of these are popular enough to warrant a transfer to the West End – from previous hits like “La Cage Aux Folles” to 2011’s “Ruby Wax: Losing It”. However, the latest show to be announced for the London Bridge venue is the new play from Canadian writer and actor Saul Rubinek called “Terrible Advice”. The show is set to appear at the venue from September and also boasts a stand-out cast in Caroline Quentin, Any Nyman and Sharon Horgan, ensuring that the production will receive the attention it deserves when Theatre Tickets go on sale.

The production is set to be directed by the well known film director, actor and puppeteer Frank Oz, best known as the voice of Yoda in “Star Wars”.

“Terrible Advice” deals with two sets of friends of the opposite sex and the overlapping feelings they all have for one another. So it is a story of love, marriage and upset as we are introduced to Stinky and Jake, plus Hedda and Delila. With Jake feelings directed towards Hedda, Stinky plans to marry Delila, but all of this threatens to be undone as terrible advice and some hidden secrets make themselves known.

Saul Rubinek is a Canadian playwright who has also worked as an actor and director. His productions have ranged from in front of and behind the camera, with acting credits that include “Unforgiven”, “Wall Street”, “True Romance” and, more recently, the television show “Warehouse 13”. His long career has seen him work in a range of disciplines and “Terrible Advice” marks his first play and its appearance at the Menier Chocolate Factory is also the world premiere.

Caroline Quentin is a well known actress who will be recognisable to London theatre audiences for her numerous appearances in British television programmes. She is best known for roles in “Men Behaving Badly”, “Jonathan Creek” and “Kiss Me Kate”, with addition credits that include “Les Miserables” (original cast) when it was running at the Barbican Theatre and “Our Country’s Good” in the West End.

“Terrible Advice” makes its appearance at the Menier Chocolate Factory from Thursday 29th September 2011 (previews from Thursday 22nd September 2011) to Saturday 12th November 2011.
