It is now the turn of West End audiences to experience something that has taken theatergoers by storm in North London as the latest production of Mart Crowley’s The Boys In The Band transfers to the Vaudeville Theatre.
With Mark Gatiss and Ian Hallard amongst those leading the cast at the Park Theatre in North London, the production transfers to the West End with these big names and more in tow. The full cast also includes Daniel Boys, Jack Derges, James Holmes, John Hopkins, Greg Lockett, Ben Mansfield and Nathan Nolan with Adan Penford directing.
The Boys In The Band focuses on a party that goes through a rollercoaster of emotions and surprises. It is Harold’s birthday and during the evening we are also introduced to characters like Michael and a hustler named Cowboy, with the action taking place in a New York apartment.
It was first seen in New York back in 1968 and since then it has emerged on other stages and was also adapted into a film penned by the play’s own writer Mart Crowley. The Park Theatre revival played throughout October and has also been seen in other locations around the country.
Its cast and reputation will be big selling points of course. Gatiss is well known, for example, for his work with The League Of Gentleman but has also carved out a career as a stage actor and a television writer, with credits in the latter category like Doctor Who and Sherlock. His theatre credits include The Recruiting Officer at the Donmar Warehouse and Three Days In The Country at the Lyttelton National Theatre.
The Boys In The Band runs at the Vaudeville Theatre from Wednesday 8th February 2017 (previews from Tuesday 7th February 2017).
