Having enjoyed many Pinter plays, but never having seen or read, 'The Caretaker', I was looking forward to this, especially at the Old Vic, but I was very disappointed.
For me, there is a fundamental problem of interpretation by the director concerning the role of Mick, which leads to a confused performance, makes a nonsense of the interplay with the other parts, and fails to bring out the drama that Pinter actually wrote, with its combination of menace and empathy.
Wow, what an awful play.
We left at the second interval.
Long, tedious, badly acted.
It seems that Timothy Spall can only play one character.
Did I mention badly acted and boring.
Save your money and time, it is genuinely awful.
This three handed is a must noteworthy actor sets the stage on fire
Danny Mays soliquy in the second act is heart breaking especially if like me you have relatives that have had electric shock treatment
Timothy spall is superb but George Mackay knocks him for six with a really physiological frightening recall of word perfect outburst shockingly good standing ovation well earned if you see one play this year this is the play of choice ;-)
Found it quite difficult to understand everything Spall said the nasal accent didn't help
