The Arts Theatre, in London’s West End, will be the home of “The Complete World of Sport (Abridged)” during the summer as the Reduced Shakespeare Company arrives following successful appearances on the other sides of the Atlantic. It arrives following various stand-out shows for the venue such as “The Awkward Squad” and “Big Pants and Botox” and shows that the location continues to attract some talented people as it offers an alternative sort of production to others in the West End.
This time around, however, it will be sports fans that will want a look-in as an array of sports are covered and various questions are raised (and answered).
Have you ever wondered what NASCAR stands for? Have you ever had an argument with someone as to the merits of one sport over the other (some may even reject the idea of calling some games sports!), or recently found out about a sport you’d previously never heard of? If so then this is the show for you as the Reduced Shakespeare Company takes us through every sport that has ever been played on planet Earth – all in under 2 hours beneath the roof of the Arts Theatre!
The Reduced Shakespeare Company is an American group that has been behind a wealth of different shows over the decades, having first emerged on the other side of the Atlantic in 1981. Since then they have taken on alternative views of a range of topics and this has also seen them go through short versions of Shakespearean plays. This is not the first time they have been seen in London either as they previously brought shows such as “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” to the Criterion Theatre whilst also presenting the likes of “The Reduced Shakespeare Radio Show”. They have also worked on international productions like “The Complete History of American (Abridged)”.
So they are well used to taking on demanding topics and condensing them for the duration of a West End stage show, making for a memorable night out.
“The Complete World of Sports (Abridged)” makes its anticipated appearance at the Arts Theatre from Tuesday 24th July 2012 (previews from Tuesday 17th July 2012) to Wednesday 15th August 2012.
