The classic story of The Full Monty returns to the stage in 2014 as the Noël Coward Theatre gears up to welcome a cast that includes Kenny Doughty and Craig Gazey, among others, in what is likely to be a big hit for the West End. The production is presented by the Sheffield Theatres and has already been seen in other locations around the country, where it has received great praise, boding well for its London run that begins in February.

As well as Doughty and Gazey, the cast also includes Scott Anson, Tracy Brabin, Keiran O’Brien, Caroline Carver, Sidney Cole, Simon Rouse, Roger Morlidge, Elaine Glover, Eamonn Fleming, Rachel Lumberg and Ian Mercer.

The movie The Full Monty was a huge hit when it was released in cinemas back in 1997 and introduced us to a group of steelworkers in Sheffield that decide to take on an unexpected activity. They decide to perform the stripping routine known as the Full Monty, but this means that they are going to have to overcome anxieties about themselves in advance. Should they pull it off they will not only have faced their fears, but also emerged as stronger people in the process.

Since the original movie was released with performers such as Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy and Tom Wilkinson, among others, the story has been retold time and time again. But with various Academy Award nominations sent their way, plus financial success at the box office, this was inevitable. It spawned a musical version that relocated the action to Buffalo New York, which appeared at the Prince of Wales Theatre in 2002, and it has now spawned this new play that will introduce more audiences to the characters made famous in the 1990s.

And it does so with the likes of Kenny Doughty in the cast. The actor has appeared in a wealth of shows over the years, ranging from well known television programmes like Dinnerladies and Coronation Street to films like Elizabeth and Irreversi.

Following the Michael Grandage-directed production of Henry V with Jude Law at the Noël Coward Theatre, The Full Monty is set to run from Tuesday 25th February 2014 (previews from Thursday 20th February 2014).
