The Godfather has a special place in the hearts of filmgoers thanks to its status as one of the best films of the 20th century. It and its sequel have earned considerable praise over the years thanks to the mix of delicate direction, pitch-perfect casting and a memorable score and it is the latter that is celebrated with this latest screening, which takes place in the wonderful surroundings of the London Palladium.

Francis Ford Coppola’s film, adapted from the Mario Puzo novel of the same name, was released in 1972 and Rota’s score remains a huge part of its appeal. The composer also penned the score for the film’s follow up The Godfather Part II, the latter winning him an Oscar. His career included scoring numerous Italian films and Operas, cementing his place in the top leagues of composition in the 20th century.
