What a load of old claptrap this play is. It may have relevant when it was written, but it lost a lot in translation. the sets were overworked and ponderous and the acting was, at best like something from stage school. It seems we are not to understand anything unless it is shouted at us all the way through. Added to that, there were some very dodgy accents going on. I was convinced that the main character was in fact German for a large of the play, so bad his American accent was. The choreography was even more irritating. Someone wrote that it was difficult to look away, well, I fell asleep for the final 15 minutes, with no effort at all. Talking to people in the foyer afterwards, I was reassured to find out that I was not alone in my opinion. Shame on you Old Vic!
