The Pride

The Trafalgar Studios 1 continues its successful Trafalgar Transformed season during the later months of 2013 as The Pride makes its way to the stage under the direction of Jamie Lloyd and featuring high profile performers such as Hayley Atwell and Matthew Horne. The production, written by Alexi Kaye Campbell, also features Harry Hadden-Paton and Al Weaver in lead roles and is set to enthral audiences much in the same way that previous shows in the season managed.

The Pride focuses on a love triangle that goes on over generations and seeks to explore the altering attitudes and opinions surrounding homosexuality. Through a changing society we meet Philip, Sylvia and Oliver and we see how experiences differ between the past and the present – from 1958 to the modern day.

The show was first seen by audiences back in 2008 and ran at the Royal Court Theatre where it was shepherded by Jamie Lloyd, who returns to the director’s chair in 2013. It managed to win a Laurence Olivier Award in the process before entertaining audiences on the other side of the Atlantic.

Atwell portrays Sylvia in the play and she does so on the back of a career that has seen her entertain an array of people lucky enough to have gotten hold of theatre tickets. Prior to The Pride she has appeared in The Faith Machine at the Royal Court Theatre, A View From The Bridge at the West End’s Duke of York’s Theatre and productions for the National Theatre. She is also known to audiences for her work on the screen, which has included both British and American films such as The Duchess and Captain America: The First Avenger, among others.

Jamie Lloyd’s Trafalgar Transformed season has seen various big names appear on the stage of Trafalgar Studios 1. Earlier in the year James McAvoy starred in Macbeth and it was followed up with The Hothouse with John Simm among the leads. So The Pride continues this tradition and ensures that audiences continue to flock to the West End location.

The Pride runs at the West End’s Trafalgar Studios 1 as part of Trafalgar Transformed from Tuesday 13th August 2013 (previews from Thursday 8th August 2013).
